“THE VILLAGE”
Monrovia Unified School District

DiscoveryOnstage is proud to once again be serving as the Monrovia Unified School District’s exclusive theatrical educator for their Village Extended School Day Program. With instruction in acting, dance, music/song writing and stage combat/sword fighting taking place on six separate campuses including four elementary schools and two middle schools, DiscoveryOnstage educators are providing a unique opportunityfor public school students to experience, first hand, the benefits of arts education and the thrill of performance. With curriculum tailored to support the California State Board of Education Content Standards for Visual and Performing Arts/Theatre, DiscoveryOnstage students work toward the creationand presentation of their very own original play or performance piece to be presented to family, friends and community. The Village Drama and Dance Clubs meet two to three times per week for three, ten-week sessions in the fall, winter, and spring. “YEAR-ROUND THEATRE ELECTIVE”
Los Angeles’ Rose and Alex Pilibos School

DiscoveryOnstage is excited to announce the return of their year round Theatre Elective program for high school students involving a three-times-weekly acting workshop culminating in a full scale, professional-style production. Along with our standard curriculum tailored to support the California State Board of Education Content Standards for Visual and Performing Arts/Theatre, per the school’s request, we’ve added special emphasis on voice and diction, physical awareness, and confidence building. This program has been designed with a theatre company format in mind requiring all students to audition for their roster spot and then actively participate in every aspect of theatre creation. “PEFORMING SHAKESPEARE”
Pasadena’s Chandler School

DiscoveryOnstage was thrilled to have had the opportunity to work with The Chandler School in Pasadena in customizing a Shakespeare Performance workshop designed to support the English Department’s unit on Romeo and Juliet. Working along side Chandler staff, DiscoveryOnstage developed the program to introduce students to basic voice and diction technique while emphasizing text comprehension and historical context. In addition, DiscoveryOnstage provided a one-hour, hands-on workshop in period swordplay giving Chandler students the rare opportunity to step back in time and see themselves as Shakespearian warriors.
